Coffee shop thoughts
Just some coffee shop thoughts on love.
Human love, is a love that more often than not, is based on solely feelings and merit.
Human love is often looked at as a “disposable love”.
When a marriage gets tough people tend to turn to divorce, when our favorite items wear out we simply throw them away, when something is broken we simply replace it with something new. This is the exact opposite of Gods unconditional love for us.
Human love can be “tarnished” by inconsistency, lies, and betrayal. We have a hard time forgiving those who have hurt us or have done us wrong in some way.
Human love is a selfish, self-serving love that cares more for what it gains from a relationship than what it gives to the relationship. Many marriages and friendships fail because this is the type of love the participants exhibit.
Only when relationships are built on God’s love will they flourish.
God’s love is steadfast and immoveable. The apostle Paul wrote in Romans 8:38-39 (one of my favorite passages) “For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord”
God’s love is sure.
God loves us whether we respond to Him in love or not.
His love for us is not based on our response, but on His character.
The world has constructed an idea of love that is moving further and further away from true love that is found only in God. When it comes to love, human love is but a pale shadow compared to the truth of God’s love. The apostle Paul wrote a passage in 1 Corinthians that contains a beautiful picture of true love, of God’s perfect love:
Love is patient
Love is kind
love does not envy or boast
Love is not arrogant or rude
Love does not insist on its own way
Love is not irritable or resentful
Love does not rejoice at wrongdoing
Love rejoices with the truth
Love bears all things
Love believes all things
Love hopes all things
Love endures all things
I Corinthians 13:4-7 ESV
This is God’s love and it is this type of love that God would have us show to others.
Just a reminder from a girl who’s struggled to fully grasp the concept of love. This is probably not the last time you’ll hear from me on this topic.
